Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge Invites Public to Celebrate Lion Week July 15 – July 19 in Honor of "The Lion King" Movie Release

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) has declared July 15-July 19 “Lion Week” in honor of Disney’s The Lion King movie, set to be released July 19.

TCWR invites the public to participate in fun, educational programs and activities centralized around a different Refuge lion resident each day. Their Education Department will hold a 9:30 a.m. and a 3:30 p.m. session of each program to give everyone the chance to attend. There will be enrichment making for the “Lion of the Day” from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. each day.

The agenda will be as follows:

Monday, July 15, programming will center around prides with Daniel as “Lion of the Day.” Chloe will be “Lion of the Day”

Tuesday, July 16, and the Education Team will be speaking about “Growing Up Lion.”

On Wednesday, Tsavo will be the featured lion and attendees can learn how the species eat.

Savannah, who allegedly had a brief stent of fame as a stunt double in the film Secondhand Lions, will be Thursday’s special lady; guests will find out more about lions living in the wild.

Friday, July 19, enrichment will be created for Willy and the Education Department will host their “Majestic Lion” program.

While there is no additional cost to participate in any of the Lion Week programs and activities, standard admission rates to the Refuge apply. For more information, see tcwr.org/visit.

For those interested in getting more involved during Lion Week, TCWR encourages them to consider adopting/sponsoring a lion resident (tcwr.org/support-us/adoptions-sponsorship). Those interested in honoring the majestic Panthera leo in a different capacity can call 479-253-5841.
