Walton Arts Center Partners with Community Organizations to Talk with Kids About Sustainability Through Art

Local students and families have the opportunity to explore sustainability through group discussions and crafts inspired by the upcoming production of Terrapin Puppet Theatre’s You and Me and the Space Between, coming to Walton Arts Center on Thursday, March 28 as part of the Family Fun Series.

Fourth through sixth grade students are invited to participate in the Fayetteville Public Library’s free spring break program on March 19 at 2 p.m. to reimagine their world through an interactive workshop.

At the workshop, students will engage in small group discussion about sustainability, brainstorm activities that they can share with peers to reduce their environmental footprint and work with staff from Fayetteville Public Library and Walton Arts Center to reimagine their world with a craft project. “The Fayetteville Public Library is excited to partner with the Walton Arts Center and encourage teens to discuss sustainability and how it can affect their day-to-day lives. We strive to create open and engaging environments where our students can pursue their interests while having fun with their peers,” said Devin Stanley, youth librarian at the Fayetteville Public Library.

Then families can join the fun together with a pre-show Family Art Night on March 28, starting at 6 p.m. Organizations from all over Northwest Arkansas including Ozark Natural Science Center, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Botanical Garden of the Ozarks and the Museum of Native American History are bringing crafts, games and activations to the Walton Arts Center atrium. At 7 p.m. Terrapin Theatre Company presents You and Me and the Space Between in Baum Walker Hall.

All pre-show activities are free. Tickets to the show are just $9 and can be purchased in-person at the Walton Arts Center Box Office, by calling 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.

The workshop and Family Art Night allow young patrons involved to get involved through hands-on arts and group activities and You and Me and the Space Between empowers then with the message that all voices should be listened to, no matter how young or small.
