Grammy Winner Bassist, John Patitucci, Brings His Electric Guitar Quartet to Walton Arts Center

Widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest bassists, John Patitucci and his electric guitar quartet will perform at Walton Arts Center on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 pm.

In 1980, John Patitucci began his career in Los Angeles as a studio musician and a jazz artist. As a studio musician, Patitucci has played on countless albums with artists that include B. B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, George Benson, Dizzy Gillespie, Was Not Was, Dave Grusin, Natalie Cole, Bon Jovi, Sting, Queen Latifah and Carly Simon. Patitucci was voted by his peers as the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences MVP on Acoustic Bass.

Patitucci has earned two Grammys for his solo recordings, one for playing and one for composing. His first solo recording went to number one on Billboard Jazz charts. His latest band finds fresh inspiration in his love of funk and jazz, utilizing two electric guitarists, Adam Rogers and Steve Cardenas, as well as virtuoso Brian Blade on drums and Patitucci on his signature electric bass.

In addition to recording and performing, Patitucci became a professor and taught Jazz Studies at The City College of New York for ten years. He has also been involved with the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program in Washington, D.C. and The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. A frequent clinician and guest lecturer at schools, Patitucci has been around the world and regularly performs at the International Society of Bassists conventions.

More recently, Patitucci began working with the Berklee College of Music’s Global Jazz Institute, where he is currently a visiting scholar, teaching in both the Global Jazz Institute and the Bass Department.
