Food Loops Named Innovator of the Year

Food Loops, LLC has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Northwest Arkansas Technology Council’s Innovator of the Year award. The award was presented in conjunction with the Northwest Arkansas Technology Summit, sponsored by JB Hunt and AT&T, October 23 at the John Q. Hammons Center. Currently in its fifth year, the technology summit under the direction of the Greater Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce, played host to over 2,500 attendees with over 60 speakers on hand to present.

President and founder of Food Loops, Tom Rohr, was enthusiastic to learn the news. “As a relatively young company in our first year of operation, we’re honored to be recognized as the NWA Innovator of the Year,” Rohr commented. “We are pleased that our process is bringing an awareness to leading technology companies in our region and beyond regarding a viable solution to the food waste problem. A problem clearly not limited to this area alone.”

As the winner of the Innovator of the Year award, Food Loops, a food waste solutions company, was recognized for their efforts to process food waste into sustainable fertilizers. Partnering with the University of Arkansas Agriculture and Horticulture departments, Food Loops is working toward substantially reducing the 80,000 tons of food waste that up in the Northwest Arkansas area landfill each year by incorporating organic additives with food waste so as to produce environmentally friendly fertilizers for both farm and turf applications.
