Reynolds Consumer Products Funds Scholarship for Student in Food Studies

Reynolds Consumer Products will provide a scholarship this fall to a lucky student at Brightwater: A Center for the Study of Food. The student nominee should be creative, outgoing and passionate — and not camera shy.

Laura Nielsen, senior director of sales-Sam’s Club for Reynolds Consumer Products, attended a scholarship announcement ceremony Jan. 25 at Brightwater, a division of NorthWest Arkansas Community College. The scholarship will begin with the fall 2018 semester, and the award recipient will receive the total $2,000 in two payments over the fall and spring semesters.

“We are so excited to be a part of this community-wide initiative focused on the culinary arts, and we’re delighted to provide this scholarship opportunity,” Nielsen said. “The scholarship is but one piece of our continuing commitment to Brightwater. We previously have donated materials for Brightwater’s food recovery program.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Food Studies and must make a cooking demonstration video as a part of the application process.

In addition to receiving the scholarship award, the recipient also will work on a Reynolds Kitchens video demonstration. The student will use Reynolds products in the video and will tape the demonstration with support from Brightwater faculty and staff.

“This scholarship is a great example of the community support enjoyed by our college’s culinary program,” said Karen O’Donohoe, annual giving officer for the NWACC Foundation. “The scholarship also is the first specific food studies scholarship established since Brightwater officially opened in 2017.”
