Jennifer Fyke of Fayetteville draws ticket for Grand Prize at Secchi Day

Fyke held the winning ticket for the grand prize kayak donated by Cabela's in Rogers to the 12th Annual Secchi Day on Beaver Lake, held on Aug. 19th. A record number of 731 people attended the event, which involves citizen scientists taking clarity readings with a Secchi Disk measuring device and water samples for testing from Beaver Lake, as well as several hundred people and volunteers, many of whom enjoyed a host of hands-on educational and fun activities lakeside at Prairie Creek.

Beaver Water District, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Beaver Lake, the U.S. Geological Survey, the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Northwest Arkansas Stormwater Education, Hobbs State Park, Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists, Beaver Watershed Alliance, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, Ozarks Water Watch, One Community, the North American Lake Management Society, and Girl Scouts Diamonds are co-sponsors of Secchi Day on Beaver Lake. Harps Foods, Hiland Dairy, Cook’s Natural Market, and Golden Corral/Pleasant Grove Road made snacks, lunch and ice cream possible. Outdoor Cap donated Secchi Day commemorative caps. Arkansas-Missouri Railroad donated train tickets and Wild Birds Unlimited donated bird feeders for the 12 Mystery Tote drawing gifts. KNWA is the television media sponsor. The Northwest Arkansas-Democrat Gazette provided print media sponsorship. SUP Outfitters and Hobbs State Park provided “test drive” activities on stand-up paddle-boards and kayaks. Other businesses and organizations contributing resources and in-kind donations for the event included KMRW 98.9 FM, Hog Radio, La Zeta Radio, KUAF 91.3, KFSM, B-Scene Media, Univision Arkansas, Dancenhance Entertainment, and the Rogers Optimist Club.
