Rogers Rotary has always been blessed to have citizens who have stepped forward to make our community a better place to live. This year Rogers Rotary will recognize another one of our citizens with our Dick Daniel Distinguished Citizen Award. The Dick Daniel Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes and honors individuals who strive toward the highest level of community involvement, influence, and dedication of time and energies toward making our community a better place to live. Distinguished Citizen nominees must meet each of these three specific criteria: 1. Demonstrated excellence, creativity and initiative in improving the community. 2. Provided valuable service by devoting time and energy to improving the quality of life for others in the community. 3. Assisted others in developing and utilizing their full leadership potential in the community. Dr. Janie Darr more than meets the criteria for the award, and Rogers Rotary club is excited to recognize her as the outstanding leader that she is. Allison McElroy, President of the Rogers Noon Rotary Club shared, that “the nominating committee quickly came to the unanimous agreement that no one exemplified this award more than Janie Darr. Roger’s Rotary Club and the entire community are grateful for the years of leadership and foresight Janie has given to the families, students, teachers, and residents of the entire Northwest Arkansas community.” Dr. Darr will be recognized at the Third Annual Dick Daniel Distinguished Award Luncheon on August 1, 2017, held at Embassy Suites in Rogers. The Rogers Rotary Foundation will use proceeds from the event to provide funding for the Rogers Public Education Foundation, which will be used to add multipurpose gardens at Frank Tillery Elementary to improve both the physical health and the emotional well-being of over 600 students and the surrounding community by adding an outdoor classroom with an outdoor white board and bench seating. This includes areas for both food production and sensory stimulation for emotional wellbeing. “We are so excited the Rogers Noon Rotary Club and Dr. Janie Darr have partnered with Frank Tillery Elementary to fund their outdoor garden expansion”, said Amy Callahan, Foundation Board President. “This garden will add so much to the school by helping to improve both the physical health and emotional well-being of our students, as well as teach lifelong skills to both students and adults in the community.” Rogers Rotary is proud to support the Rogers Public Education Foundation, while also placing a long-lasting impact on teachers and students, as well as a lasting naming opportunity to honor Dr. Darr and Rogers Rotary Club. The Rogers Public Education Foundation promotes and enhances the quality of education in our community by collecting and distributing money for worthwhile academic programs -- programs that would not normally be funded through conventional means. The foundation also recognizes and rewards the achievements of students and teachers in the Rogers School District. About Rogers Noon Rotary The Rogers Rotary Club was founded on April 1, 1917 on the concept of community service; and just celebrated their 100th birthday. The Rogers Rotary Club served the community as the Chamber of Commerce 1917-1922 and sponsored the organization of the formal Chamber of Commerce in 1923. The Club is comprised of business leaders, educators, religious leaders, lawmakers, non-profit executives, and other civic-minded citizens who are interested in making a difference in the community in which we live. Above all, we are men and women who have the time and resources to commit to Rotary and its objective of “Service Above Self.”
