Museum of Native American History Adds New Exhibit | "Coming to America: The Taino"

The Museum of Native American History is excited to add a new exhibit, "Coming to America: The Taino"

The Essex Collection of fine Taino Artifacts are on loan from Jack Hart.

The new exhibit started February 1, 2017.

The Taino were a group of people who inhabited several Caribbean islands some 500 to 800 years ago-- including Cuba, Trinidad, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Puerto Rico. They were the first Native Americans who greeted Christopher Columbus in 1492.

The Taino had a complex political, religious and social system as well as being skilled weavers, potters and carvers. The Taino ceased to exist within 60 years after the arrival of the Spanish colonists, although their incredible talents and contributions can still be seen in their artifacts.

For more information on the exhibit contact the Museum of Native American History, 202 SW O St, Bentonville, AR 72712, (479) 273-2456, monah202@gmail.com
