U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Plans Prescribed Burns at Beaver Lake |

February 1, 2017 | The Army Corps of Engineers Beaver Project Office personnel will be conducting small prescribed burns during the next several weeks in four recreational areas on Beaver Lake.
The prescribed burns will take place in Horseshoe Bend, War Eagle, Starkey, and Blue Springs recreational areas.
Periodic burning improves timber stand health, enhances wildlife value, and helps restore glade areas back to its natural condition. The burning will reduce limb and leaf accumulations decreasing the chances of a damaging wild fire during the high use summer months.
Prescribed burns improve habitat for wildlife by promoting vigorous growth of non-woody vegetation and grasses which are important to wildlife for food and protective cover.
Burning also releases important nutrients into the soil and exposes the soil to sunlight which stimulates the formation of grasses and other green plants forming fibrous roots which help control erosion.
