We’re seeing progress being made towards a UN treaty to end plastic pollution.     At the latest round of negotiations in Canada, Unilever CEO Hein Schumacher represented Business For A Plastics Treaty.   In his plenary speech, he outlined to governments why a treaty with globally binding rules – including rules on upstream policy interventions – is exactly what business needs.     Read his reflections on why there is ‘optimism from Ottawa’ and why more work is still urgently needed: https://lnkd.in/eGxYk4vj   #UnileverInsights

We already pay all our direct employees a living wage and are committed to extending this across our supply chain by 2030.    Helping to drive a more open and transparent conversation on living wages is just one way we’re working to ensure everyone in our supply chain is paid enough to afford a decent standard of living for themselves and their families.     Find out how we’re working to support better livelihoods in our own business and beyond.    https://lnkd.in/eecPD3ft #Unilever

Science will resolve some of the biggest sustainability challenges, and that’s why Georgia wants to empower the next generation of scientists. She says "I am really proud of being a woman in Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM), and in my role, I have been able to speak in schools about the role of science in the sustainability movement. Through this, I would love to inspire other young girls to pursue a career in research and innovation." #UniquelyUnilever #WomenInScience

The right climate solutions can be unlocked by the right government policies. Positive, constructive engagement by businesses and industry groups is critical to this process.     We’re delighted that InfluenceMap assessed our corporate climate policy engagement review as best practice. To drive progress towards our net zero ambition, we require increased transparency across our value chain – this includes policy engagement. Simply put, to deliver our goals we need wider industry to move forward too.    Read more in our Climate Policy Engagement Review: https://lnkd.in/eCS_6ppV #UnileverInsights #ClimateAction #CTAP

To achieve our ambition of a deforestation-free supply chain, we have fundamentally reshaped the way we source. We are building new skills, and investing in new systems and networks, within our business and with partners.    One example of our work with partners is in Brazil. We’re collaborating with a key soybean supplier to ensure the oil we use at our factory will be sourced from deforestation-free or non-converted areas of land.    Read more https://lnkd.in/eVygvVRs   #UnileverInsights

Yesterday, we put our updated Climate Transition Action Plan (CTAP) to our shareholders in an advisory vote at our AGM.     We’re delighted to share that 97.59% of the votes cast were in favour.    Our focus is now on delivery. To guide our progress, our plan includes: - New, stretching, approved near-term science-based targets for reducing our GHG emissions by 2030  - 10 action areas across our value chain, from addressing forest-risk commodities to reducing the impact of our ice cream cabinets  - Our ‘asks’ of governments, industry and regulators as we work to overcome barriers to progress and accelerate the transition to a net zero economy    While we have a lot to do, we’re partnering with our suppliers and others to drive innovation, reformulate our products and scale solutions.     By taking urgent climate action over the short term, we aim to progress towards our net zero ambition while delivering for our business over the long term.    Read our updated CTAP: https://lnkd.in/d9mKjSDR #UnileverInsights #CTAP #ClimateAction

In line with Unilever’s wider refreshed sustainability agenda, we’re evolving our approach to plastic packaging to be:    - more focused in allocating our resources  - more urgent in driving actions towards our long-term ambitions  - more systemic in our advocacy to address the enablers and blockers of progress outside our direct control.    We’re prioritising reducing our use of virgin plastic and developing solutions for hard-to-recycle flexible materials.     Pablo Costa, Unilever’s Global Head of Packaging, explains how and why we’ve updated our approach.    https://lnkd.in/eDB_Kx-e #UnileverInsights
