ARTOSPHERE PERFORMANCE AT BGO
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grammy Award-winning ensemble Third Coast Percussion, along with over 80 musicians from across the country, will bring an immersive and powerful free musical experience to the garden on May 19 at 6:00 pm. This outdoor community performance is part of the Walton Art Center’s Artosphere: Art & Nature Festival.
Percussionists will be dispersed throughout the garden, and audience
members will be able to weave in and out of the performers during the
concert.
Third Coast, accompanied by more than 80 musicians from 11 states, over 20 universities and colleges and several Northwest Arkansas public schools,
will perform "Inuksuit." The piece was composed by Pulitzer Prize winner John Luther Adams, who was inspired by the large stone structures in the Arctic that the Inuit people used for navigation. Adams composed rhythmic layers within his work to represent the structures.
Sean Connors, Third Coast ensemble member & technical director, says this piece is at once an intricately structured concert work, a beautifully hypnotic sound installation, an interactive work of performance art and a communal music-making event like no other.
"‘Inuksuit’ is an incredible community event. It is not every day that you can gather a large group of people together that are all excited about making a truly groundbreaking piece of art. It is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime
experience for both the audience and the performers!" Connors said.
Picnics are welcome, please leave pets at home.
In the event of severe weather, the performance will be moved to the Walton Arts Center.
