Breast Cancer Survivorship Series

Springdale, AR. (June 8, 2017) – The Susan G. Komen Ozark Affiliate will be hosting the second breast cancer Survivorship Series on Saturday, June 24^th. The Survivorship Series addresses survivorship issues of local breast cancer patients. The first conference held back in December 2016 discussed metastatic breast cancer and the fear and questions surrounding a re-diagnosis. There is no cost and it is open to the public.

This workshop will feature presentations on Body Image and Intimacy following breast cancer. Scheduled to speak is Dr. Lindsey Seale from The Parkhill Clinic for Women. Dr. Seale will discuss medical options for intimacy issues following chemotherapy induced menopause symptoms. Also presenting is Miki Biggers, Director of Social Work Services at Hope Cancer Resources. Ms. Biggers will provide information on coping with emotional and relationship issues related to sexuality and intimacy post breast cancer treatment. Rounding out the morning will be Shannon Jones, APRN with Highlands Oncology Group. Ms. Jones will speak on communication, body image and intimacy.

“There are so many aspects of breast cancer survivorship,” said Vicki Cowling, Director of Mission Services of the Ozark affiliate. “This is a topic that is not easy to approach, but one that many women struggle with following a breast cancer diagnosis and their new normal.”
