3rd Annual HeART of Rogers CRAFT Fair set for October 20 and 21

The 3rd Annual HeART of Rogers Craft Fair offers not only fine arts and craft items for display and sale by local artists, it also offers guided tours of two historic buildings that are significant to the founding of the City of Rogers. The arts and craft fair is Oct. 20 and 21, 2017 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and takes place in two historic venues. Handcrafted items available for sale include: pottery, glass, jewelry, paintings, dog portraits, goat soap products, custom designer pillows, etc.

Artists will exhibit in the 1st floor of the beautiful, newly restored Haas Hall Academy located at 121 W. Poplar St. in what was once the Historic Lane Hotel. The Haas Hall Academy Parents and Faculty Counsel will be giving lobby tours of the building Friday, 4 – 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Art-ists will also exhibit work in the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church located at 307 W. Elm St. on the corner of W. Walnut and 3rd Streets. Church members will provide tours of the beautiful stained glass in the sanctuary throughout the fair hours.

This art and craft event brings an exciting component to downtown Rogers by offering upscale, hand-crafted products that appeal to the widely diverse interests of Northwest Arkansas locals as well as the vast influx of regional tourists. The HeART of Rogers Craft Fair consists of juried artisans and designers who exemplify the best in creativity, diversity and individuality.

The former Lane Hotel, designed by architect John Parks Almand and built in 1928, spans 42,000 square feet and is the most prominent building in Downtown Rogers. The property, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, was acquired by the Walton Family Foundation in June of 2015 and has been completely renovated in time for the Haas Hall Academy Fall 2017 semester. The scaffolding, cranes and construction fencing have been removed to again reveal the beautiful five-story, yellow brick Spanish Revival building. This historic structure is the largest Spanish Revival building in Arkansas, with a prominent colonnade of arches at the second level and a central tower. Superintendent Dr. Martin Schoppmeyer has graciously offered not only the 1st floor classrooms for the HeART of Rogers Craft Fair but also tours of the lobby, Orchard Room and ballroom.

The beautiful First United Methodist Church was designed by A.O. Clarke, and is the only church still standing of the five Rogers churches designed by the renowned architect. When the church sanctuary was built in 1908, the congregation took pride in decorating the building with beautiful stained/art glass windows from the studio of the Ford Brothers Glass Company in Minneapolis, Minn.
